A note on the world of The Abandoned Gods

The Abandoned Gods series doesn’t adhere to traditional fantasy conventions. Its language, dialogue, clothing, and other elements move deliberately between what may feel older and distinctly modern. This dissonance is intentional and forms part of the wider architecture of the series, with its significance unfolding across the books.

The gods don’t hold the strange views we humans sometimes do about who may love whom. Binary considerations around gender and sexual attraction are simply of little interest to them. But they also know that who you love can be weaponized against you.

Perhaps that is all the more reason to find our way back to a world where love is simply love.
